Physical Therapy For Shoulder Pain Baton Rouge, Denham Springs, Gonzales & Surrounding Cities

A physical therapist should almost always be involved in the treatment plan for shoulder pain. This is true for surgical recovery, pain that developed over time, or from a sudden injury. The shoulder joint and the shoulder blade should be constantly working together to avoid pain and dysfunction. Our highly trained physical therapists in Baton Rouge, Denham Springs, and Gonzales will evaluate your shoulder for potential causes of pain and dysfunction. Our therapists will guide you through a treatment plan to ease your symptoms and restore your normal shoulder function!

Common Causes of Shoulder Pain

Shoulder pain occurs for a variety of reasons. The shoulder (glenohumeral) joint is surrounded and supported by ligaments, tendons, and muscles. The shoulder joint will not move with the correct patterns when there is damage to the structures in the area. Poor mobility and whether the shoulder joint is unstable or too tight can lead to your shoulder pain. Shoulder discomfort can develop over time gradually or from an injury. Common diagnoses that physical therapists can help with are rotator cuff tears, impingement, shoulder osteoarthritis, labral tears, shoulder dislocations, and shoulder replacements.

Exercises and Stretches for Shoulder Pain

Our physical therapists at Baton Rouge Physical Therapy will collaborate with you and develop an exercise program to provide you shoulder pain relief over time. This program will include exercises to restore range of motion and strength within the shoulder, exercises to improve strength of the muscles that attach to your shoulder blade, and even exercises to restore motion and strength surrounding your neck. Your PT will add stretching in the neck or shoulder if muscles are tight from the examination. Your PT will assign exercises designed specifically for you and they will be adjusted based on your pain levels.

When to Seek a Physical Therapist

The shoulder is one of the least stable joints in the body and shoulder injuries can take months to years to recover. This highlights the importance to seek a physical therapist as soon as you notice pain or weakness in your shoulder. A physical therapist will help anyone with poor functioning of the shoulder or the shoulder blade and prevent it from becoming more stiff, painful, and dysfunctional. If you are having a shoulder problem from any cause, our physical therapists will conduct an examination and guide you through an individualized exercise program meant for your personal recovery!
